Highlights – 2006
The following represent some of successfully completed activities
experienced during the Life Skills Enrichment Curriculum
Cohort 1 (July 1 – October 30, 2006) by the 100 students, or SEC Student
Ambassadors as they are called:
July 2006
Session 1
Cohort 1 Saturday School was launched
Session 2
July 8 session cancelled due to the death of a Hillside HS – SEC Student
Ambassador.
Curriculum Day Guest Speakers
Session 3
Life Skills Enrichment class – SEC Nurse, Sister Lilly Twala on
nutrition, immunization, water and sanitation issues.
Session 4
Life Skills Enrichment class – Ms. Pindila, Ministry of
Agriculture in Health, Nutrition and Home Economics
Session 5
Job Readiness Techniques class – Mr. Nkosanthi Maziya, Career
Guidance Officer from the Manzini Regional Education Office.
Session 6
Life Skills Enrichment class – Sabelo Sukati, Peer Educator from
Population Services International.
Session 7
Life Skills Enrichment class – Mrs. G. Zwane, Ministry of
Health & Social Welfare (HIV), and Mrs. Hlongwane, Ministry of Health &
Social Welfare (STI).
Job Readiness Techniques class – Mr. Sammy Dlamini, Marketing
Manager, Standard Bank of Swaziland.
Session 10
Life Skills Enrichment class – Guest Speaker, Mr. Robert G.
Thwala, Nurse and Pastor, also with Ministry of Health and Social Welfare,
Voluntary Counseling and Testing Department..7
Session 12
Life Skills Enrichment class – Guest Speaker, Mangoba Mabuza, FLAS
Youth Team Peer Educator & University Student – living with HIV/AIDS.
Session 13
Last Saturday School activities with a Closing Program, and guest
speaker Bishop Sarah F. Davis of the 18th District AME Church to
congratulate the 100 SEC Student Ambassadors.
August – December
Computer Technology Lab - Computers, software and printers
installed with Internet and Video/TV Theatre equipment operational.
Job Shadowing Site-Visits
The goal was to give each Student Ambassador at least one job shadowing
experience during the program:
September
– December
SAMPRO – Community Outreach Activities
Mobile Testing Unit at Hillside HS for two
Saturdays in October
Approximately 28 total tested the first day; 56 SEC students; 4 teachers and
6 community members attended the second Saturday.
Manzini Youth Club – held a car wash to
raise money for orphans of HIV/AIDS.
Opening of A Children’s Clinic – SEC
Student Ambassadors asked to launch the program. Wrote and performed poems
and songs about life and HIV/AIDS.
Teresa Dlamini, SEC Student Ambassador
chosen by her community (Kakhoza) to participate on a Community Fundraising
Committee to help the urban poor.
December 1
UN World Aids Day – held at Manzini Trade Center Stadium. Both
Cohorts 1 and 2 and other Hillside HS students attended and marched from
Hillside to the Center. SEC Student Ambassadors were asked by the Swazi
Government and UNAIDS to participate. The group sang the Hillside HS “AIDS
Song” written by individuals at the school, and had written poetry and a
play, if time allowed. There were four Mobile Testing Units on site with
long lines. Cabinet Ministers and members of the Royal Family were there.

prepare SEC Student Ambassadors for employment opportunities.

at Hillside High School on “Testing Day” during the SEC Saturday School.

outreach activity as part of SAMPRO.

Hillside HS on UN World Aids Day to the Manzini Trade Center Stadium –
December 1, 2006.

SEC
Cohorts 1 & 2 march to the Manzini Trade Center Stadium for the UN World
AIDS Day event held on Friday, December 1, 2006. Then, the SEC Ambassadors
from Cohort 1 perform their famous “HIV/AIDS Song” during the program.
